About us
I’m Stefania Ciacci, and I have always loved and dreamed of travelling and tourism
I decided to create Borghetto Vacanze to have you get acquainted with the medieval village of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, where stands the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, a stone’s throw from Montalcino. This is how the restoration of the B&b La Casa di Alice, or Alice’s House, started. Aunt Alice and Uncle Giovanni contributed to my growth, teaching me important values... my mind often returns to the home where I spent part of my childhood. That’s where I met my aunt’s friends, who gathered every day at the Borghetto to embroider or crochet.
In wintertime, Alice’s house was the meeting place for Laurina Debolini, sora Lisa, Elba the painter, Emma and Lola, to play cards or sip a cup of warm tea, the tea that my friar uncle had brought from India … I can still smell its scent!
I personally made sure that the restoration became a creation, like a painter creating from scratch. So, different people came into play: the master carpenter, who made the doors and mantel from a piece of rough wood, the blacksmith, who forged the iron for the windows and restored the ancient andirons, the mason, who carefully applied the old lime plaster techniques… Thank you all, whether mentioned or not, for having contributed to making this house unique!
Holiday rooms and apartments in Montalcino
Once in Montalcino, look for the road leading to Castelnuovo dell’Abate.
Here you are, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, in a small medieval village whose characteristics are still preserved intact: narrow roads paved like in days of old, the bishop’s palace, the Romanesque church, the small piazza, the centre of life for the local community.
One kilometre from the village, in the valley of the Starcia torrent, stands the imposing Abbey of Sant’Antimo, one of the masterpieces of excellence of Romanesque art in Tuscany.
