“VAL D’ORCIA” ITINERARY

“VAL D’ORCIA” ITINERARY

Crossed by the river Orcia, from which the valley takes its name, stands this beautiful area south of Tuscany. Medieval castles, sinuous hills, ancient villages such as Castelnuovo dell'Abate and Montalcino, cypress avenues and fabulous vineyards are just some of the elements that form the landscapes of the Val d'Orcia. The entire area is today a protected park, and has been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004. Absolute protagonist is the uncontaminated nature, flanked by vineyards that produce wines among the best in Italy and in the world, such as Brunello of Montalcino, the Nobile di Montepulciano and the Rosso Orcia.
The landscapes of the Val d'Orcia are dotted with many small villages, castles, abbeys and villages. The Abbey of Sant'Antimo and that of Vitaleta stand out among all. The time here still flows slowly and you can savor the true Tuscan life visiting countries such as Pienza, Castiglion d'Orcia and its fortress, Radicofani, Montalcino and Montepulciano.
